“An important work. Haas has written a compelling book for those seeking the inner heart of Christianity.”—Robin Amis, Director of the Praxis Research Institute and author, A Different Kind of Christianity

“A wonderful, thoughtful, and meaningful book on the presence of God. It is both classic and contemporary in its expression of biblical truth, and it is written with a spiritual elegance that is both edifying and engaging.”—Robert A. Fryling, Vice-President of InterVarsityPress and author, The Leadership Ellipse
While some suggest the problems we face today can be solved by updating Christianity or ridding ourselves of religion altogether, The God Who Is Here demonstrates how the rediscovery of the contemplative way can lead to a deeper relationship with God and a vibrant way of worship. This work draws on the rich tradition of Christian mysticism and contemplative prayer (as expressed through the work, most recently, of Fr. Thomas Keating). With deep biblical insight and poetic expression, The God Who Is Here speaks to those longing for spiritual guidance with the promise that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Presbyterian pastor Peter Traben Haas draws on his own life experiences and his personal witness of Christians from across the denominations who are engaged in deep spiritual practice. Haas has constructed a contemplative theology that allows both a more profound connection to the essential truths of Christianity and an expansive vision of faith within the miraculous discoveries of science and cosmology. Passionate, evocative, and deeply committed to the wonders of a daily connection with God, The God Who Is Here is a stirring new contribution to the Christian community by an important new voice in the world of Centering Prayer.

Peter Traben Haas is senior pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Peter was born in Traben-Trarbach, Germany and grew up in Wisconsin, and received his M.Div. from Princeton Seminary and a doctorate from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Ground all of his personal and pastoral spiritual life is a daily practice of Centering Prayer. Peter is a certified Centering Prayer instructor and retreat leader. Peter is the founder of and contributor at Contemplative Christians. The God Who Is Here is his first book.
