The Lantern Books Blog: Jeffrey Masson in New York state

March 31, 2009 9:10pm
Jeffrey Masson

Jeffrey Masson

The international bestselling author of When Elephants Weep and Dogs Never Lie About Love, Jeffrey Masson is going to be speaking on the topic, "The Emotional Lives of Animals" on Friday, April 10th Friday, April 10th at 7:30 in Woodstock for the Animal Kin Lecture Series.

As Lantern's friend, Ellie Sarty, who's arranging the talk says, Jeffrey lives in New Zealand, so this is a rare opportunity to hear him, and this is his only lecture in New York.

Here's the blurb from the book: Exploring love, joy, anger, fear, shame, compassion, and loneliness, Jeffrey Masson's revolutionary insights about the depth and spectrum of animals' emotional lives sweep aside old prejudices on animal behavior. Drawing from personal experience, scientific studies, animal behaviorists, myth and literature, as well as the stories and observations of animal trainers, veterinarians, and guardians of companion animals, Masson navigates through the rich universe of animal feeling, opening the door to a deeper understanding of animals and changing the way we see them.

Jeffrey Masson has a Ph.D. in Sanskrit from Harvard University and has had a controversial career in psychoanalysis. He has been a professor at universities in the U.S. and Canada. Other books by Jeff include The Nine Emotional Lives of Cats, The Evolution of Fatherhood, The Pig Who Sang to the Moon, Raising the Peaceable Kingdom, and his recently published, The Face on Your Plate.
