The Lantern Books Blog: SUV vs. the World

Bob Clark's A Christmas Story

No happy ending

I don't know why, but I was particularly annoyed by the news that Robert Clark, the director of the movie "The Christmas Story," had been killed in a car crash along with his son. What ticked me off was that Clark was driving a 1997 Infiniti Q-30 sedan, the 2007 version of which looks something like this, while the other driver, who was drunk and apparently veered into the wrong lane was driving a GMC Yukon, which looks like this.

The Yukon driver, who didn't have a license, was hospitalized, but his female passenger walked away with a few bruises. He'll be charged with vehicular homicide when he gets out. But now I realize why people think SUVs are so safe. It means that you can go around safely killing people in other cars. I know you shouldn't drink and drive; I know the Yukon driver was in the wrong lane and that he didn't have a license. But does anyone seriously believe there'd be two dead people if the killer was driving a VW Beetle? Ban SUVs.
