Could meat really be grown in a lab?
Two recent articles provide a sample of how even the mainstream media is beginning to obsess about meat. The first is the May 29 blog from
Michael Pollan, in which he gives a backhanded compliment to those who brought about a foie gras ban in Chicago and thus allowed us to forget about the enormous suffering of much greater numbers of chickens and other animals on factory farms.
The second is from
William Saletan on the viability of growing meat in a lab rather than killing animals. This too is a bizarre exercise in appetitiveness and lip-smacking, but it at least draws attention to the issue.
